On 21 October 2009, a proposal by the centre-left in the European Parliament to pass a Resolution on Freedom of Information in Italy, which was primarily designed to criticise Berlusconi, fell by 335 votes in favour to 338 votes against. A centre-left bloc of S&D, ALDE, Greens, and EUL/NGL had dominated voting during the day, rejecting several amendments to the proposed resolution by a centre-right bloc of EPP, ECR, and EFD, with almost 100% of MEPs voting along these party lines in every vote. But when it came down to the final vote, four MEPs broke away from the ALDE group line, and were decisive in giving a narrow victory to the centre-right. One of these ALDE rebels (Vincenzo Iovine, from Italia dei Valori-Lista di Pietro) voted against the resolution, while the other three (Liam Aylward, Brian Crowley, and Pat the Cope Gallagher, all from Ireland’s Fianna Fail) voted to Abstain.

Os detalhes do voto estão aqui.
